LAST CALL

dir. Kyle Walker

08:36

A young loner has spent a month calling every single one of his contacts, keeping count of how many days no one answers his calls in this short drama that displays how perpetual loneliness brings irreversible consequences

With a zero-dollar budget, “Last Call” is script-less, no-dialogue short film about the relativity of the passage of time and the danger of perpetual loneliness and abandonment that I intentionally (and ironically) captured alone in the isolation of my college dorm. The interior space, starved of human voices, the painful stillness, the disorienting blank white walls, and empty chairs and plates all display the brutal mundanity of loneliness, mindless routine, and disconnectedness from human touch - all taunted by the noises of busy industrial life pouring in from the open window. This film continues conversations on the superficiality of digital connections and the unreliability of relationships in the postmodern techno-dependent world but it also raises questions about the illusion of lself-isolation and loneliness.
